To you three members of the Advisory Staff:

We've let a Saturday go by without doing much of anything. THIS Saturday (the 19th), I would like to see a post from each of you guys for your department. It needs to include:

  • Very very brief summary of everything that's been accomplished so far, since we haven't had any official reports before. No detail, but just to let a new member, for instance, know what they can find were they to look for it.

  • What's currently being worked on, or what currently needs to be worked on.

  • Your vision for the path your department needs to take. Include what needs revising, what needs starting, and in what order.

  • Questions you want to raise to the FoI community. Anything you don't know about? Something that needs voting on?

This week is completely packed for me, and I'm lucky to be able to get this post out, between rehearsal and all my homework. But after performance Saturday night, it'd be great to see this up to stimulate work, so we can get going on things as soon as I become more available. We'll just call it a test of your guys' autonomy. ;D

Incase anyone missed it before, the following are the guidelines we are planning on placing on advisors. For this particular topic, note especially the third item.

  • Stimulate discussion and progress in your department by posing problems and reviewing all contributions. Post tasks regularily, and make sure to delegate them in a timely manner.

  • When something is fit to be finalized, announce that it will be so unless there are any last objections, and, if none are heard within some amount of time, do it. This announcement will be referred to as a "motion to finalize". It should be posted as a topic, with title as follows:

    FINALIZE: Enna concept

    Of course, relpace "Enna concept" with whatever you are finalizing.

    When finalization occurs, edit the title like so:

    FINALIZE: Enna concept (CLOSED)

    If, for some reason, finalization is cancelled or deferred, edit like so:

    FINALIZE: Enna concept (CANCELED)

  • Produce a weekly or bi-weekly report summarizing what has been done in your section, what topics are active, what topics are set to be finalized (so people don't miss their chance to review them), etc. This report should be put up as a news post in your section, and should use the following title format:

    WEEKLY REPORT: Gameplay (Apr. 3, 2003)

    Of course, replace "Gameplay" with your section name, and the date with the current date when you post (even though the date is part of every post already, it is nice to have it in the title to reduce confusion).

    We should decide on a particular day when reports should be posted, to keep things organized. If we start doing weekly chats, they should be scheduled to occur a day or two after reports are released, so that they can be used to prepare an agenda for the meeting. We can also make the reports into an e-mail newsletter.
