Server is back up!

As many of you noticed, the server was down for the last couple of days. I don't know what caused this, except that it was beyond my control. Fortunately, it appears that the server admin (who, contrary to popular belief, is not me) has fixed it.

Hopefully this means everyone and their mom will stop IM'ing me every five minutes. :P

Yay for server quirks. ::choke::

Anyway, Temp, I'm not sure you've ever been thanked for running the liaison role when this sort of stuff comes up, so ... um ... yes. That.

And I'm sure you can rest assured that everyone will stop IMing you. That only leaves the moms for you to deal with. :)

Yea the server went rouge and was DOSing our core router to the tune of 60mb per second, It had to be taken down. Unfortunatly I was informed of this sat night while intoxicated, an hour away.

We did set up this sweet server bandwidth usage page, though: http://noc.blackhole.com/~wilde/

Yep, so it was a bandwidth problem. But it's all better now.

Although, I am curious to know what, exactly, you mean when you say "the server went rouge"... O.o

Im not really sure what I mean by that either, I think an IIS worm got on the system. Thats y port 80 was disabled for a bit while I was installing the new service pack and hotfixes.

What happened was OP was trying to send out 60mb/s but our cap prevented most of that. The core router didn't like having to filter all that and was kinda chunking, seeing as how 60mb/s is the max size our pipe can handle.

Im really close to going apache all the way, I just have to finish some school final projects first.

I hate to be the one to say it, but if the system was compromised it needs a complete OS reinstall. Good chance to try out a new configuration on the system though ;).

I would love to switch over to Linux or one of the BSD's. Remote administration via SSH would be nice. It would take a lot of work, of course, including transfering the database from MS SQL to MySQL or whatnot, and transferring over all the hosted sites, etc. Hmm... perhaps too much work. Yeah, maybe just installing Apache-win32 would be the best choice.
