[music] Cade's Theme

Since we'd like to represent our main characters musically, we need a unique musical theme for each of them. These musical themes should generally be significant (more than simply a motif; at least eight measures for the entire theme), easily recognizable, yet adaptable to a wide variety of arrangements since our characters will be in different sorts of situations, and they themselves will change over the course of the story.

Cade needs his own theme. This is a good opportunity for novice composers, since (as you might gather from his profile) Cade is one of the simpler main characters, and this task could be approached many different ways. The music should touch on his brash, often angry demeanor. Though this almost certainly means his theme will be suited to be upbeat, it should (as with all thematic material) be able to fit into other arrangements as well.

Upload your submissions in the music section (remember to include an editable "raw" file), then post a link here.

[music] Enna's Theme

Since we'd like to represent our main characters musically, we need a unique musical theme for each of them. These musical themes should generally be significant (more than simply a motif; at least eight measures for the entire theme), easily recognizable, yet adaptable to a wide variety of arrangements since our characters will be in different sorts of situations, and they themselves will change over the course of the story.

Enna needs her own theme. On one hand, it should be highly adaptable, since we first meet Enna as a harsh terrorist, and she slowly evolves to think more critically and gain more appreciation for others (Syne, in particular). On the other, it should solidly identify her, perhaps as a vaguely exotic Drythian (use a nonstandard scale, maybe?), or perhaps by her fiery elemental affinity. This will be a hard one to pin down, so good luck!

Upload your submissions in the music section (remember to include an editable "raw" file), then post a link here.

[story] Revise Part II

It's true: all of Part II needs to be revised. Much earlier in the history of the project, we simply passed around a document containing contributor commentary with regard to possible changes and unclear plot points. Summaries of that commentary can be found for Chapter Eight, Chapter Nine, Chapter Ten, Chapter Eleven, and Chapter Twelve. It is highly recommended that you review these discussions, the entirety of Part II (if not the whole story), and the relevant character bios before you make further comments and/or suggest changes in this thread.

A significant portion of the outline for Part II needs to be rewritten to reflect the changes that have been discussed. A contributor who rewrites a section by integrating together decisions made here and elsewhere (see above) will likely earn more points than one who rewrites a section on their own. A contributor who submits completely new material without first discussing it might receive no points at all (i.e. if the material isn't fitting). Also note that even well-written rewrites may not necessarily be put into Part II.

Having said all that, I know this task seems daunting but don't let it intimidate you, even if you're new to the project (the plot could certainly use a fresh read, in fact). If you're having trouble figuring out where to start, by advice is to pick a chapter or section that interests you and focus discussion on that. And remember that since this is an official task, even simple good points about Part II are worth more than simple good points made elsewhere.

We need concept art for Dell. As part of this, we need to decide what, exactly, Antareans look ilke. Feel free to submit concept art either explicitly for Dell or for Antareans in general. Submit images in the illustration section then post links to them here.

We already have several good concepts for Rheya, but none which can really be considered "official". Astravaii's is close, but not done. I am trying to track down Astravaii to get her back on the project, but if that proves impossible, it would be nice if someone else could finish off her drawing. Alternatively, if you think you can do better starting from scratch, go ahead and submit something.

[gameplay] Brainstorm: Character Abilities

We need to decide what special abilities each character should have. Post your ideas here. Feel free to post abilities even if you don't know which character should have them; we can then discuss how to fit them in. Be sure to read up on the characters for ideas.

Try not to get too far into the exact mechanics of your ideas just yet. Explaining how they might be used in a puzzle is good, but there's no need to develop mathematical equations for computing damage or anything like that.

Here's a summary of ability ideas we already have for each character. Feel free to further discuss any of these to flesh them out.

Syne

Group Management: When multiple chacters are selected and Syne is one of them, several AI helper algorithms will kick in to make the group coordinate their efforts.

Dell

Flight: Dell can fly.

Eumonetics: Dell can use eumonetic techniques, though he does not learn any until later in the game. His affinity starts out close to air, but shifts towards water late in the game.

Enna

Ranged attack: Enna can shoot enemies and objects with her bow and arrows.

Cade

I don't think we have anything for Cade.

Rheya

Eumotech: Rheya can design and construct eumonetic devices.

Eumonetics: Rheya can use eumonetic techniques, though her power is relatively weak. She's more effective when she makes use of eumotech. Her affinity is between air and fire.

Ko

Pets: It was suggested that Ko could tame and train pets, although this was still pretty up-in-the-air.

Brooke

Morph: Brooke can morph herself or another person into an animal which she is closely familiar with. (IMO, we need to place some serious limitations on this ability.)

Eumonetics: Brooke can use some eumonetic techniques, with an affinity for earth.

Rush

No ideas here either.

[project] Refer your friends

Do you have any friends who would make good contributors to Fate of Io? Refer them, and you will get a point bonus.

Here's how it works: Tell a friend about Fate of Io. When they sign up, have them post in this thread to tell us that you referred them. Then, for each five points your friend gets, up to 20 points, you will receive a two-point referrer bonus. So, if your friend contributes enough to earn 20 points, you will get eight bonus points out of the deal.

After your friend posts to this thread, write a post of your own to claim the points. We will award points to that post based on your friend's score.

We only intend to offer referral bonuses for a limited time, until we have enough people around to sustain the project. So, get those bonuses now while you still can.

Proofread this site, and post any spelling or grammatical errors here. You will receive one point for each spelling or grammatical error you find in any content node of this site.

This is a great way for newcomers to get to know the project and get a few points while you're at it! You need to read the site content anyway, and you're bound to come across a couple errors as you do.

Note that the errors must be in official site content (such as The Game or The Project sections), not in discussion threads or the like.
