Quote from mystik3eb:

Well, the thing is, everytime I saw a bad driver, I ALWAYS checked to see who was driving. ALWAYS. And the vast majority were asian.

Then maybe, mystik, what you should say from now is... "the vast majority of bad drivers that I have encountered in San Jose were Asian"... "Asian drivers in San Jose are bad". Seems like a simple change, but it makes a world of difference. Just reminding you that in an online medium like this, your actions will not speak louder than words.

Why's it so important for you to check, anyway? It's not like you're going to see that particular face again in the future and remember to move a lane or two away.

Hmm. Yeah I could fall into the trap that Mystik did and say that all spanish, by spanish I mean spanish speakers, drivers are bad drivers. The most noticable bad drivers are the ones driver lemons, those are bad cars that have a crap load of problems and need drastic body work. The reason I see these is of course because they stick out like a sore thumb. So naturally I'm likely to remember that one more than the moron in the nice new Honda Civic who just cut me off.

I mean in my area there are a lot of spanish speaking people, usually from Puerto Rico, or Mexico, and sometimes it's like Davy said "Spot the white boy". Nothing against spanish people its just that they tend to bring their problems with them. NOT all mind you, but a vast majority are part of the "family" in Reading, and Allentown. (sister city to Reading England supposedly) Reading, PA is a drop point for drug distribution from NYC. It's like a drug mall there. Head to Buttonwood for crack, head towards the high school for weed swing by the river front for...etc. The cops are all in on it and the mayor is totally inept. (beyond all comprehension) Now the city is by majority spanish speaking. Anyone from the surrounding white suburbs might conclude that all spanish people are drug dealing thug-brothers, and thug-sisters. This isn't true. While many of the ones I know do come from low income areas, most of them don't do/sell drugs. It's the local chapters of the latin Kings/Queens who run the show, and of course the subcultures don't stop at spanish. There's a rather UNheathly* rave culture, Goth culture, and various Punk cultures as well most of them supply the demand for the drugs.

*by unhealthy I mean seriously f----d up. I love a good underground trance rave, but these are hardcore psychedelic techno raves where they deal E at the door, and you check your inhibitions there too. Most people come in wearing leather...let's leave it at that. You gotta dig for it, but its there.

Then fine, change my above statement to "the majority of bad drivers I, my parents and friends encountered were Asian." That works for me.

I would liek to add a confusing point in here...

The vast majority of asian drivers only drive so bad because they have bought huge cars that they cannot handle properlly (nor even see over the dash board properlly).

This is totally true and you all know it!!

2003/11/06 21:19:51 PST by Aetrus [0/15]

must we get back into this? Not all Asian people drive huge cars. Most in fact drive Asian cars! Most of the asian people I've known drove either Japanese cars, Toyotas, Hondas etc, or Korean cars like Hyundais, and Kias. Also not every Asian person is shorter than the average Anglo-Saxon. How about that Basketball player from China? Is Yao his name? He's frikkin tall man! Good player too. Eat that one for your stereotypical breakfast! :)

whooo! Stereotypes! and yeah, Yao Ming, what is he 7'6? damn that's tall. And no offence to all of us North American's... but I've grown to be a big import car lover, no one can match the ability to make an engine last longer than Toyota or Honda. Their engine's just do not stop!

That guy's tall, but still, the majority of asians I've seen are pretty short. And most that I've seen do drive Toyotas or Hondas.

I hate people who argue about racism. People are bastards all over. Leave racism alone nobody gives a shit any more if somebody is prejudice...

2003/11/09 05:11:06 PST by Morpheus [0/5]

I'll admit to being stereotypical. But it is born into a person where I'm from. There is literally NO racial diversity here. Frankly there is hardly any religious diversity. I'm from Atlantic Canada (Prince Edward Island to be exact.) and if you were ever here, or come here, there is no diversity what so ever. So we really can't be held responsible for our lack of knowledge :)

OK! moving on.....

i failed my road test because the woman who was testing me was a total bitch and she freaked out that i was going to hit a car in front of me because i started recovering from pulling-out too early. i WAS going to hit the brake and correct it, but she started yelling so i started freaking out and SHE hit the brake (dual brakes) before i did. AHHHHHHHH. sucks. i'll have to retake the test over my Christmas break. anyway......

btw, i'm an asian....i'm 6'4". =]

2003/11/16 15:31:20 PST by Morpheus [0/5]

Damn you! I'm 5'6... yeah, that sucks as soon as they hit the brake you fail. Good luck with it next time though.

5'7" with no signs of growing. Lucky for me I passed the road test first time...but I failed the written twice...I hate those tests.

2003/11/17 14:41:11 PST by Morpheus [0/5]

hehe yeah, I passed first time as well. I took drivers ed though, and you do 10 hours behind the wheel, and 10 hours watching before you do your test. And your test is with the same instructor. Makes things real simple... so simple my instructor told me to drive one place, and the person with me to drive another, and he put his seat back and slept for the whole drive :)

ARGH! my teacher was someone other than the DMV's instructors. I HATE NY's DMV.
