Note: description for "Tarikun Castle Ruins", which can be identified as a separate location, is included below.

Imagine an expansive and traditional fantasy setting: castles, knights, strongholds, royalty. The Tarikun Kingdom was all this for hundreds of years, and it gained historical significance as being perhaps the only civilization to thrive on the surface of its continent while the Protean-Antarean war was occurring all around it.

Fifteen years before the beginning of the story, the kingdom met its tragic demise when the Proteans established a peace agreement with Tarikun. The Antareans provided a strong rebuttal in a surface military campaign that led up to the Battle of Tarikun. This ultimate event killed a staggering proportion of all involved, as well as left the Castle of Tarikun in absolute ruin. At present, none of the societies on what is now known as the Ruin Continent have recovered, least of all the Kingdom of Tarikun.

Location: TARIKUN CASTLE RUINS

The Kingdom of Tarikun is a dark, somber community that, at gameplay, is little more than a village of ruin. The old castle's Great Hall is one of the only structures left standing, and it is inhabited by a great ivory dragon that basically owns Tarikun and its people. The basic agreement between the dragon and the people is simple: loyalty and absolute obedience to the dragon is given in exchange for the dragon's residence and protection against the malevolent wilderness that lay beyond Tarikun's crumbling walls.

The remaining community lives in rebuilt stone cells and haphazard shelters. A single good well remains in the kingdom, and a nearby bog is the only convenient source of food. A majestic dead oak tree looms over the place, and its rotting branches provide ample firewood for the people of Tarikun.
