What about the poor kids without the know-how to stretch further then .bmp and .tif ?

What about the Adobe Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, [another program]'s layered file types?

Generally, I think we already support all the image / audio formats we need. It's a good idea, IMHO, to encourage members to evolve the ability to convert Bitmaps to JPG or ZIP them. All other files (i.e. 3D models, Flash, video, etc) can be ZIP`ed. This can save a bit of bandwidth, allow grouping, and avoid file association issues for some people.

FYI -- Other reasonable image formats can include: BMP/PCX, WMF, and PSP/PSD; less reasonable: , B3D, TIF/TIFF, IFF, ASF, XBM/XPM, and several dozen others. Other reasonable music formats can include: WMA, AU/SND, and RA; less reasonable: MP4, AIF, MED, EMF, AIF, etc. And for video: AVI, MOV, WMV, MPG/MPE/MPEG, SWF, etc. And for documents: PDF and RTF (shouldn't allow HTML and DOC for security reasons). And then there are resource files that we could be working with: ICO/ICL, CLP, ANI, FON, TTF. Dunno about 3D models (MAX?).

The main reason for the file format limits are to prevent people from uploading, say, jsp's. That would be bad. But I specifically chose not to allow BMP or WAV since they are uncompressed and would waste bandwidth. Anyway, yeah, anything else can be zipped, so I don't think it's too much of a problem...

On a very loosely related issue, did Temporal want to disable indexing on http://www.FateOfIo.org:8081/v4/files/?
