Fate of Io
People who register and never post

I don't really understand them. I'm sure everyone has noticed how we seem to get about one new person registering each day... and then never posting. Why would you register if you don't intend to post anything? Not that I mind... it's just weird. Any of you lurkers care to share? :)

I'm not one of them, but one possibility is that registered gets them the added benefit of the "Recent Activity" page. ;P

'tis a good point, that and not sure how they will be accepted... but it is all good. I'm sure they will sometime (But there is a large amount of them now that you bring it up).

I suggest a time limit to how long their account stays active until they sign in for at least, say 3-5 days. If they decide to come back and/or get interested again, they will have to realize they can't just join and not do anything, or they'll have to recreate their account over again. Just a suggestion, though I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why this wouldn't work.

There is really no reason for such a limit. There is nothing wrong with people registering and never posting. It only takes a few bytes in our database, and we won't be running out of available usernames anytime soon. It just seems odd, that's all.

The "recent activity" thing is a possibility, but most of these people only have one active day, so they don't seem to be taking advantage of it.

Spectators? But then I spose they wouldn't be need to register just to spec. Maybe they noticed the site, but just didn't bother to post anything and forgot/got busy.

Send a reminder email around =D

Maybe a reason that they never post is because they don't have anything to say. I am a noobie to this site and it takes a while to get caught up with the every thing that has already happened for instance reading the story, gameplay proposals and the like. I look foward to sharing any advice that I might have in the future.

We do kind of have a lot of info for people to go through but thats a good thing it shows that we have active minds. But it is kind of weird how some of them just register and have 1 active day and they could have registered a few weeks ago. Well either way, like Temp said it's not taking up space it's just kind of strange.

BTW, welcome aboard Captain_Smallet. Everyone here is friendly and very happy help out with any qustions that you might be having.

Captain_Smallet, I agree with you
I'm new to this site also, and I'd rather get caught up on what's going before I get involved with the discussions. Better to know what you're talking about before you open your yap, my momma always said.

^_^ That Smollet there be a lad whom I myself introduced to FoI. Him and Psycho, who'll be coming around shortly.

I agree with you CS, though that's not exactly what we're talking about. Unless people don't sign in o_O, they sign up, and don't come back and read all this stuff. They just...leave. It's weird, yes. But I like the idea of emailing.

Whatever happened to [my] newsletter idea?

I don't know what happened to [your] newsleter idea mystic but I think it's a good one. Even if it's not very regular, like maybe once a month just to let people know about heated debates or big discussions or what others are working on or just remind people that we're still here.

i say prune the memberlist regularly.

Akio: Everything related to illustration is in "Fate of Io -> Illustration".

Nix xiN: We can't prune the member list. If we did, that would mean deleting data from the site's history, which I don't want to do. But, again, there is no reason to do so anyway. v4 should be able to handle tens of thousands of members. Right now we have 97. It's not a problem.
