Navigation
Fate of Io is a large site containing a lot of text. We have organized this text into a "tree" of information. The site contains several sections, each of which contain sub-sections which may contain further subsections, etc.
The easiest way to find your way around the site is to use the sidebar. The sidebar, which you see to your left, displays the tree and your current position within it. Each section title has a small white box next to it. If the box contains a plus sign, it means that the section has sub-sections within it that aren't currently visible. To view these, click on the section.
Sometimes the text of a section will include links to all the sub-sections, but this is not always the case. The only way you can be sure that you've seen everything is to make use of the sidebar.
Registering
In order to contribute to the Fate of Io project, you must first create a username for yourself. To do this, click the "Create new user" link in the second box on the sidebar (again, to your left). Follow the directions to choose a user name and password. Once you are logged in under your new identity, you will see buttons around the site which allow you to post comments, submit files, and more.
Note that once you have registered yourself, you can use the same user name at all sites hosted on this server. You can find a list of these sites here.
Posting
Once you have registered, you may post comments in the forums. Simply click on the "New Post" button to start your post. Just typing plain text is fine most of the time, but if you want to apply special formatting to your text, such as making some text bold or italic, read the Forum Code tutorial.
Chatting
Fate of Io's web site includes a built-in chat room! Once you have logged in, you can join by going to the Chat section. Beware, however: In order to allow a chat room like this to operate, technologies were used that do not work well on some browsers. For best results, update your browser to the latest version (this is something you should do anyway for security reasons). You may also want to install the latest version of Java. Some browsers (such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox) are known to crash occasionally while attempting to open the chat page, which will cause all of that browser's windows (including ones not currently viewing the Fate of Io site) to disappear. This is rare, however.
Activity Tracker
If you visit the site frequently, you would probably like a way to quickly determine what has changed since your last visit. Fortunately, this is easy. Just click on the Activity Tracker link, which you see on the sidebar under the navigation tree. This page shows the latest changes to the site as well as where people have recently posted, allowing you to catch up quickly.
